FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything about Neucaff: how it feels, what’s in it, and how your order works. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Get in touch and a real person will get back to you.

The basics

What is Neucaff?

Neucaff is Performance Coffee: specialty-grade decaf coffee reignited with paraxanthine (CPX). You keep the ritual and the boost, with more drive, minus the shakiness, and still sleep friendly.

What is CPX?

CPX is our shorthand for paraxanthine. It’s what your body naturally turns most of your caffeine into. Roughly 80% of the caffeine you drink becomes paraxanthine. We simply start you there.

How is CPX different from caffeine?

Caffeine has to be broken down by your body before you feel most of its effect, and it lingers. CPX skips that step and clears from your system faster. That’s why people describe it as smoother and steadier, and why an afternoon cup doesn’t cost you your night.

Is Neucaff decaf? Is there any caffeine in it?

The coffee itself is decaf: we start with naturally decaffeinated specialty coffee. Then we add 120mg of CPX per serving, so you still get a real boost, just from paraxanthine instead of caffeine. Like all decaf, it may contain trace amounts of caffeine.

Is Neucaff the same company as Rarebird?

Yes. Neucaff was born from Rarebird. Same people, same obsession with getting this coffee right. Rarebird customers told us how much the difference mattered to them, so we built a whole brand around it and made the coffee better than it’s ever been. Rarebird products stay available for now, and we’ll give you plenty of notice before anything changes.

How it feels

What will I feel?

Focused and alert, without the sharp spike or the shaky edge. Most people describe it as smoother and steadier than caffeine. If you’re used to a big caffeine jolt, give it a few days to notice the difference.

Can I drink it in the afternoon?

Yes, that’s one of the best parts. Because CPX clears your system faster than caffeine, Neucaff is a sleep-friendly choice for an afternoon cup.

How much should I drink?

Brew it like your usual coffee. Each serving has 120mg of CPX. If you’re new to CPX, start with one cup and see how it feels before adding a second.

I’m sensitive to caffeine. Can I drink Neucaff?

Many of our customers switched to decaf because caffeine made them jittery, anxious or kept them up, and Neucaff is how they got their coffee back. Everyone is different, though, so start with one cup and see how you feel. CPX is a stimulant, like caffeine. Neucaff isn’t intended for children. If you’re pregnant or nursing, have a medical condition, or take any medication, check with your doctor before drinking it.

Is CPX safe?

Paraxanthine is already part of your everyday biology: it’s the main compound your body makes from caffeine. Every batch of our CPX is third-party lab tested for purity and potency.

Who shouldn’t drink Neucaff?

CPX is a stimulant, like caffeine. Neucaff isn’t intended for children. If you’re pregnant or nursing, have a medical condition, or take any medication, check with your doctor before drinking it.

The coffee

What roasts do you offer?

Three single-origin Colombian roasts:

Light: dried fruit, graham cracker, caramel
Medium: almond, nougat, chocolate
Dark: toasted nuts, dark chocolate, robust

Does it taste like decaf?

It tastes like great coffee, because it is. Every roast starts as specialty-grade, single-origin Colombian coffee. The coffee that became Neucaff was named Best New Product by the Specialty Coffee Association.

Where does your coffee come from?

Colombia. Its high-altitude growing regions, volcanic soil and year-round harvests produce beans with exceptional clarity, balance and sweetness.

How is it decaffeinated?

We use the sugarcane process. Green beans are gently washed in water and ethyl acetate made from fermented sugarcane, which removes the caffeine while keeping the flavor. We never use methylene chloride.

How do you add the CPX?

After decaffeination, we infuse CPX back into the green beans with a carefully controlled water-based process in Colombia. Only then are the beans roasted. It’s decaffeination in reverse, and it’s patented.

Is your coffee tested for mold and mycotoxins?

Yes. We test our green coffee for mycotoxins, including ochratoxin A, through accredited third-party labs.

Whole bean or ground?

Whole bean in our 12oz tins is the heart of Neucaff, and we recommend it. Grind right before you brew for the freshest cup. Ground coffee is available too.

How should I brew it?

Exactly like your usual coffee. Drip, pour-over, French press, AeroPress or espresso all work. Use the same ratio you normally would.

How should I store it?

Keep the lid on tight and store your tin somewhere cool and dark, away from the stove. Skip the fridge and freezer.

Orders and shipping

Where do you ship?

We currently ship to all 50 U.S. states.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is free on orders over $50.

When will my order ship?

We ship as close to the roast date as possible so your coffee arrives fresh. You’ll get an email with tracking as soon as it’s on the way.

When does the 3-Roast Pack pre-order ship?

Pre-orders ship this fall, ahead of the full Neucaff launch. We’ll email you as soon as your pack is on its way.

What’s your return policy?

You can return unopened coffee within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Because coffee is perishable, we can’t take back opened bags or tins. On multi-bag orders, the first one is eligible for a refund even if it’s opened, as long as the rest come back unopened within 30 days.

Something’s wrong with my order.

Sorry about that. Reach out within two weeks of delivery with your order number and a photo, and we’ll make it right.

Subscriptions

How do subscriptions work?

Pick your coffee and how often you want it, every 3, 4 or 5 weeks, and save on every delivery. You can skip, change or cancel from your account.

I’m a Rarebird subscriber. What happens to my subscription?

Nothing you need to do. Current Rarebird subscribers keep their current price when they move to Neucaff, as a thank-you for being here first. We’ll let you know before anything changes.
